August Micro-surfacing Project

*The citywide micro-surfacing campaign was originally scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 8 but was pushed back to Monday, August 12 and reorganized due to technical issues on behalf of the contractor.

DATE/TIME: Monday, August 12 - Wednesday, August 21

KYLE, TEXAS –– On *Monday, August 12 a citywide micro-surfacing project, led by Viking Construction, and focusing on the East side of Interstate 35 in Kyle will begin.

Work hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Residents are asked to plan accordingly as all vehicles along the affected stretches of road must be moved before 8 a.m., the day micro-surfacing work begins.

Micro-surfaced roads will need to be closed after being treated, but will be reopened after the coating has cured, which will take a few hours. The city asks that residents do not drive or walk on the new surface until the crew has opened the street. Fresh coating can stick to car tires and paint. When the micro-surfacing is “cured”, the work crew will remove the cones or barricades.

Residents may see work crews in their neighborhoods between *Monday, August 12 and Wednesday, August 21 removing/grinding down pavement markings as well as patching and cleaning up street areas.

Micro-surfacing is a preventative maintenance sealing treatment used to extend the lifetime of blacktop roadways. Benefits of micro-surfacing include easy application, suitable for low-volume roads, and cost-effective as it creates an expenditure of approximately one-third the costs of a pure blacktop overlay,
