City of Kyle Announces New Communications Manager

KYLE, TEXAS - The City of Kyle has hired Rachel Sonnier as the new communications manager.  

Sonnier’s years of reporting experience in the Central Texas area as well as her communications background within the public and private sectors, is set to further enhance the city’s community engagement and communication efforts. 

Sonnier previously served as the staff reporter and later the features editor and digital director for the San Marcos Daily Record, overseeing the paper’s online presence and reporting on events and news within the city.  

During her tenure at the San Marcos Daily Record, Sonnier successfully worked with the community to cover local events and news that both engaged and informed the public. Her media coverage earned a second place for Features Writing in the 2018 Better Newspaper Contest and the newspaper website won first place Best Website in the 2018 Better Newspaper Contest, under her management. 

Prior to her work in journalism, Sonnier worked for the City of San Marcos’ Main Street Program, helping to keep downtown stakeholders and partners engaged and informed through marketing campaigns and community engagement.  

“I’m thrilled to join the City of Kyle at such an exciting time,” Sonnier said. “I look forward to bringing my experience and energy to the heart of the Innovation Corridor of Texas and to contribute to the City of Kyle’s goal to keep residents prepared, informed and engaged with their community.” 

As communications manager, Sonnier will work to implement public communication strategies, media relations, community affairs and development of strategic messaging for city departments. 

Sonnier has a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications - Electronic Media from Texas State University. During her collegiate career, Sonnier worked on the university’s TV news broadcast Bobcat Update and was a part of a team that won the Mass Communications Program the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association Newscast Award in 2016. She was also a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society.
